Ping too high on Battle Field Bad Company II?

I have just purchased Battle Field II for PC and I am not able to play because my ping is so high. I have a brand new computer and I do not believe its my internet because I play plenty of first person shooters on Xbox 360. What Could it be.|||Stop torrenting.
