In which US states are boys allowed to play field hockey in High School?|||unless there is a men's team at a particular high school, a public school can't deny the right for a male to try out for a team even though it is a women's team if they do, you can sue them,(its unconstitutional and sex discrimination) but if you suck they can always cut you because you are no good, o to answer your question technically you can play in any state|||Actually, in most states boys are prohibited from playing on girls teams. It is discrimination and encouraged or required by Title IX. The thinking is two fold, first that since the girls' grandmothers were denied equal access to sports, the best remedy is to limit the boys' access. Secondly, any boy of any age, size, or physical ability has an unfair advantage over any girl of any age, size, or physical ability. (This means that in order to correct previous discrimination against women, they discriminate against their sons and that if you take a 1st grade boy with cerebral palsy and asthma, pour him out onto a field hockey pitch, that he would beat a senior girl) Additionally, since the rules are administered by state athletic associations and not technically the schools themselves, Title IX does not apply.
For the record, according to my research, New York and Massachusetts do allow boys to play on girls teams if there is no comparable team. Pennsylvania allows for boys or girls to play on either team even if there is a comparable team.
