Trying out for high school field hockey in the fall?
I'm doing a field hockey summer clinic to get prepared. Can any people who have done field hockey recommend a good summer workout to get in shape? Like running and stuff? I really want to make the team.|||For my field hockey tryouts we did a lot of scrimmaging, sprinting, and activities showing how well you are with your ball control/dodges. I recommend working on doing at least 20-30 minutes of running everyday so eventually your mile time is around 7 minutes, 8 minutes at the most. Also make sure to work up you endurance. A good way to do this are fartlek workouts. These model how you'd run in a game. Do a bunch of sprints too. If you search "field hockey workouts" on google, there are some good websites that have pre made calenders. Also doing lunges and stuff to strengthen your legs help because a lot of times in field hockey you are in a squatting position. A good way to practice dribble is to do ladders with a group of people. Have a group of 4 with 2 people on each side about 100 meters away from each other. Dribble halfway with a tight dribble, then the rest with a loose. These help with ball control a lot. Good luck!!
